Challenge #29

Posted by The Design Experiment on 9:18 PM
Hi there Experimenters!

I'll admit it. I'm a huge fan of Disney movies. Especially the movie "Aladdin". I mean, come on..who wouldn't want their own personal genie? Someone to give you whatever you wanted with just a wish?! So we ask you this week...

If you bumped into a genie and she offered to grant you three wishes. What would your wishes be and why?
*******************************************************
Our Guest Designer this week is the beautiful and talented Danielle Flanders!

A Bit about Danielle: What an honor it is to be asked to be a guest designer, thank you for having me! I am a former elementary teacher turned stay-at-home mom with 2 daughters, Taylor is almost 9 and Kati is 3. I love to create anything and everything....cards, mini albums and scrapbook pages, you name it! Currently, I am designing for Melissa Frances and Pink Paislee. Please stop by my blog sometime: www.danielleflanders.blogspot.com.

Thank you so much for Guest Designing for us this week Danielle! We are so excited to have you!

If I Had Three Wishes
By Danielle Flanders

Danielle Says:

When I think of wishes, stars come to my mind! I decided to use the negative of the star chipboard, painted it and machine stitched around the outside and then tucked the pictures of my two girls and husband underneath! I loved how the ribbon added some much needed color, so I wrapped it around the chipboard to frame it a bit.

Journaling:

I'd wish for my family: health, happiness and love!

My Three Wishes
By Sasha

Journaling:

My journaling this week is sweet and simple, 3 wishes, 3 lines .. and 2 boys that I hope and pray these wishes come true for them. I wish for you prosperity, I wish for you success and I wish for you eternal love.

3 Wishes For You
By Emily

Emily Says:

I decided to flip this one up a bit..I wanted to let my daughter know the three wishes I had for her as a woman. Thing I wish someone had told me growing up...

Journaling:

Love Yourself-
Every last inch, always. Without exception.
Know Yourself-
Learn something new about yourself everyday, be spontaneous. Try new things.
Be Yourself-
Never change for ANYONE. Only you have the power to be you.

****************************************************
Three Wishes
By Amy

Journaling:

If I was granted three wishes, I would wish to live closer to my fam-I miss them like crazy. I would wish for my kids to have wonderful lives because that is my goal in life. My last wish would be all mine-I would wish to always be in shape because it's something I am always worried about.

********************************************************
3 Wishes
By Divian

Divian Says:

I really thought about this layout and what I would really wish for given the chance. Life as a single mom is not easy, but I seriously could not bring myself to ask for money. I believe hard work eventually pays off and all will be right by God sooner or later, at His time. So I would ask for really only one thing...that my children go through life happy and enjoying every moment of it and using any pain to learn from and become stronger people.

Journaling:

If I had three wishes, it would be so easy to wish for riches, fame and good health. But those are far too easy and being more sentimental at heart, I would clearly use my wishes on the happiness and well being of my children. It is my wish that they grow and live a life full of joy. I know that they will experience pain but it is another wish that through that pain, they learn to appreciate life and become stronger and better people. I know money is easy to wish for, but I would gladly use all three wishes on my children and their gaurantee of joy in life.

******************************************************
I Wish...
By Leslie

Leslie Says:

A typical reaction to a genie popping up and asking to grant 3 wishes would be for something trivial (but exciting nonetheless!) like new cars, bigger house, lots of cashola..
I knew from the second I got this challenge what I really wanted to wish for. My children come first - so this is how I came up with my journaling....

Journaling:

I wish....
1. that you both stay true to your faith & love in Jesus Christ
2. that you will ALWAYS adore each other
(on the next one - I was hoping the "genie" would let me get a "3-for-1" all in one so...)
3. for you to alwys stay healthy, well loved & live life to the fullest.

((Leslie's layout will return shortly!! It's out for publication))
********************************************************
If I Had Three Wishes
By Kimberly

Journaling:

1. To live long enough to watch ALL my children grow and pursue their dreams and goals...and experience the joys of parenthood.
2. ALL of my children to outlive me.
3. ...and to grow old with Todd in Montana

********************************************************
One more thing:

Hi guys, I just wanted to take a moment and share something with you all.
When my dear friend Patti and I dreamed up the idea of our challenge blog here at TDX, we were beyond excited. We imagined a place where we would create and inspire and BE inspired. And it has happened. Every week I, we ALL, come here and are blown away by YOUR talent, your thoughts and heartfelt layouts.
BUT. Yes, I hate the proverbial BUT...but. The truth is, When Patti and I imagined this home for our challenges; prizes and RAK's for each challenge never entered the picture. I wish I could afford to give away a prize to every person who plays along each week. Hell, I wish I could give a prize to everyone who comments! We truly appreciate your love and support as our readers, and I guess what I'm trying to say is that, we just can't afford to continue with RAK's.
We know we will probably lose some people who play along. But that's okay, we understand. We will continue to be here every week, hoping to inspire, ready to be inspired, and we hope you will come back too.

PHEW. Now that that's off my chest...

If you still love us... ;-) You know the drill!

Hi Experimenters!

I hope you have had a wonderful week! And I hope you have had time to Indulge yourself this week! That's what this week at The DesignX is all about! Indulgance! We all have little ways of finding indulgance in our everday, sometimes mundane lives.

So this week tell us:

In what way(s) do you indulge yourself?

***********************************************************
Our Guest Designer this week is the super talented Waleska Neris!

A Bit About Waleska:

I’m Waleska, a full time
mommy to 2 adorable boys. I’m totally addicted to scrapbooking and stamping. My style is clean and simple with fun and bright colors. Besides my family, of course, I love paper (of all shapes and sizes!), stamps, fabric, blue vintage items, photography and shoes.

Thanks for joining us this week Waleska! We are so happy to have you with us!

Indulge
By Waleska Neris

Journaling:

I buy shoes. When I’m happy, sad, feeling down... to celebrate, to cheer me up, to match a new outfit or the new season... whatever the reason a new pair of shoes (or 2 or 3)
is the best way to indulge myself!

**************************************************************
Me Time
By Amy

Journaling:

I find it absolutely necessary to indulge in a little "me time" before I hit the ground running each day. I get up early, while everyone is still sleeping, to enjoy a cup of coffee and some computer time in peace. It helps me get the day started off right.

Indulge In The Little Things
By Kimmi

Journaling:

Peanut m&m's and popcorn, a closet full of shoes, hours of reading, naptime, scrapbooking stuff, late night bubble baths, family time, just a few of my little indulgences.

******************************************************
Hog Heaven
By Kimberly

Journaling:

At least once a week...or more! I need to have one of these yummolicious caramel apples. This is my happy place...my ultimate indulgence. As you can see...the heavenly reece's is my favorite of all.

*************************************************************
Indulge
By Dena

Dena Says:

While creating the layout for this weeks challenge about indulgence, I have learned that I have GOT to indulge myself a little bit more. I racked my brain trying to come up with something, anything that I really indulge in that DIDN'T include chocolate and all I could come up with is a coffee while grocery shopping? Lame!! Lame I say! So here is to finding time to indulge oneself!

Journaling:

Indulge. Something I don't do very often. But when I go to the grocery store, you had better believe that I am buying myself a latte & I am going to enjoy it. I absolutely abhor going to the grocery store and coffee helps make it bearable.

************************************************************
Indulge
By Leslie

Journaling:

If I could have just one indulgence ~ here it is ~ JAM! I can't help it - the smell, the jars....oh man I'm such a sucker this delicious tasty treat!! I love jams & jellies. I put it on everything!! Especially toast! - YUM!

Challenge #27

Posted by The Design Experiment on 2:14 PM
Before we get to this weeks' challenge...we would like to make a little introduction!

As you may have noticed, we have been missing a couple of our DT members the last few weeks, and unfortunately, due to other obligations, Wendy and Kinsey have had to step down. They will be missed at TDX, but we know they are working on other artistic endeavors and we wish them the best of luck!

That being said: We have a couple new DT members to announce today!!!

Please join us in welcoming our two newest members:

The amazing and talented, Dena Coe and Divian Conner!!!

Girls, we are so beyond thrilled to have you here as a part of the TDX team!!!

Here is a little about our new girls:

Dena Coe:

A bit about Dena:

Hi! My name is Dena. I am a 30 yr. old SAHM to my daughter Zoë who is seven. I have been scrapbooking for the past 4 years in the traditional sense that we see it now but after literally digging through my hope trunk at home, I unearthed several scrapbooks that I had completely forgotten about! So I guess I was bitten by the bug by the time I was 8.

Currently I am a designer for Paper Trunk, Webster’s Pages and Bad Girls Kits. I feel deeply honored to be working with all of these companies and the amazing people at each one of them.

I love scrapbooking and everything it encompasses. It is such a great outlet both emotionally and artistically. I am so excited to have the chance join the wonderful designers here on the Design X team!

Divian Conner:

A bit about Divian:

I am a single mom of four going through a divorce. In my four fabulous babes, I not only find inspiration, I find life. Through them, I create and aim to preserve their years in my pages. Life is art, my art my babes, and my babes are my life.

Again, please welcome these girls, they are wonderful, and we are s
o excited to see what's in store for TDX with these ladies on the team!

*****************************************************
So, on to this weeks' challenge!

This one is a totally fun and surprising challenge! When you were a kid, were you fascinated by the dictionary? Maybe I was just a total goober, but I love words. I am a total word nerd, and love looking up new words I hear or see.

So this week, we are challenge you to:

Close your eyes, open the dictionary, and point to a word. Doe
s your word mean anything special to you? Why?

Remember! NO CHEATING! HEHEHE! We all used the first word we got...and some of us got super lucky with our words...maybe you will open the dictionary, and find a word you've never seen....(See? We're fun AND educational up in here!)

We can't wait to see what you create! Here's what we created:

******************************************************
Now-A-Days

By Kimmi

Journaling:

So, I grabbed the dictionary, and so I wouldn't cheat and choose a word of my likings, I gave it to my husband to find a page as my eyes were closed. The letter "n" is the letter he chose, hoping I'd land my finger on nuclear. haha. Too bad for him, my finger landed upon the word "nowadays". When I first thought about this challenge, I knew I'd end up re-choosing and picking a more meaningful word than just something random, but after seeing my first blind pick, I agreed I'd keep it.

I enjoy a good book. I really enjoy the Twilight saga. I like to act a bit goofy sometimes. Angel and I have our silly photo sessions often. I love being a SAHM. BB is my little gift from God. I like to wear my comfy shoes. All the time.

Kin
By Divian

Journaling:

There is nothing like family. Nothing like it in the world and I wouldn't change that at all. Nope, at all.

*******************************************************
Bubbly
By Collette

Journaling:

Is how I feel when I know that you and I will be spending time together shopping, going out to eat, watching a moive, or simply just kicking back!

****************************************************
Sun {Tea}
By Emily

Emily Says:

I was nervous when I opened the dictionary, afraid I'd get some crazy word, but I ended up with "Tea" My first thought was BO-RING, but then I remembered a conversation I'd just had with my sister about Mom's Sun Tea..and I knew what I would do!

Journaling:

It always marked the beginning of summer for me. Mom would bring out the Sun Tea pitcher, and even though the sun could barely peek through the Seattle clouds, we'd have Sun Tea by the afternoon. It's still my favorite drink, no matter what Season!

****************************************************
Like
By Leslie

Journaling:

I like them - lots.
I like her & him & him. -THEM- lots & lots.
More like love. I am blessed with this incredible group.
My family. What's NOT to like? What's NOT to love?
My world - yep, they are my world.
This may be corny but - "they complete me".
So you tell me - - - how could you NOT like them?
My girl, my boy, my honey. My home. I really
do like them. LOTS & LOTS & LOTS!
~July 2008 - Smoky Mtns. ~

***********************************************************
Island
By Amy

Journaling:

I took out my dictionary, closed my eyes and pointed to a word. When I saw that I had picked the word "island" I remembered the quote, "No man is an island." I can't put into words how glad I am that I'm not going at this alone. If I didn't have you, I know I would never make it. You are my rock, my strength, my soul and I am so thankful you're with me.

************************************************************
Not Quite Cosmopolite
By Dena Coe

Dena Says:

When I found out that our challenge was to use a random word from the dictionary, I was both excited and panicked. I realized I don't even OWN a dictionary! Can you believe that? What kind of parent am I? So I resorted to using an online dictionary that featured a word of the day. My word was COSMOPOLITE-a person who is at home in every place; a citizen of the world. And well anyone who knows me, knows I am not quite that. This was a really fun challenge and it brought to my attention the need to own or at least be able to locate a dictionary!

Journaling:

I have never been much of a "country" livin girl, even though I live in a town of only 23,000 people. But I am not a big city girl either. I love to go and visit Portland and Seattle, places like that, but I know that I would never be able to call those towns home. While Roseburg is tiny, there is nothing to do here, we have to do any real shopping out of town, this is home. Where I will raise my family. Where it is safe, comfortable. Now maybe a move is on the horizon and we will move on to bigger and better things. But for now, I will be a little city girl with a big city heart.

************************************************************
Three Kiddos I Love

By Sasha

Sasha Says:

My word was THREE so I did a LO about the 3 men in my life, they are the reason I smile on my dark and gloomy days. My hubby and I are both active duty and we both have pics of each other with our kids, when I was deployed last year to Iraq I had pics like these in my BDU pants everyday, to remind me of the fun times together. I purposely used this picture since I was running out of ink and made it work with other bright colors. Enjoy

****************************************************

Hi Experimenters!

This weeks's challenge is all about FEARS. We all have them, they may be silly (Did you see the Maury Povich episode about the girl who was afraid of Pickles??!!!) or they may be debilitating. Maybe you have overcome a fear recently, or have acquired a new fear...tell us about it!

Challenge #26:

What is or are your biggest fear(s)? Do you think you can overcome it or is it just something that will stick with you no matter how hard you try to let go?

***************************************************

This week our wonderful Guest Designer is Tina Albertson!

A bit about Tina:

Scrapbooking to me is such a passion. I want the “small” stuff to matter, to be remembered, because too quickly those “little” memories can fade. Through scrapbooking I can preserve all those memories for future generations. I also NEED that creative outlet!!!

My scrapbooking style? I still haven’t figured that one out. My layouts are usually linear with a little bit of clutter, lol. Is that a style?!!! I usually like the focus to be on the pictures and journaling.

My favorite things to do while scrapbooking is listening to the playlist on my iPOD and eating peanut M & M’s. I also have a hard time concentrating so I take lots of breaks to get on-line and gather inspiration from some of my favorite artists.

I am one lucky girl to design for Pink Paislee, whose product never ceases to inspire me!

I am so happy that The Design Experiment has asked me to be a guest designer….I love nothing more than a GREAT challenge!!!

Why Am I Afraid?

By Tina Albertson

Journaling:

When Chad did a job working for the railroad a little over a year ago, I knew I would have to overcome my fear of staying alone in our house all night. Almost a year later, I still find myself terrified, unable to sleep, fearful of the little "What if's..." Why can't I get over this? I'm 31 years old for crying out loud! It's time to be a "Big Girl" and get over this ridiculous fear. After all, he only has 30 years left until retirement..

((Tina's layout will return shortly! It's been picked up for publication, CONGRATS Tina!!!))

What If...
By Leslie

Journaling:

Well here we go. It's your senior year in high school.
Can't believe it's REALLY here! It is going to fly by.
Before I know it, you're off to college. A world all
your own. {What if} I haven't prepared you? {What if}
you get lost? {What if} you get confused? {What if}
I haven't taught you all you need to know? That
my dear, will always be my fear....
Even though I know you'll really know what to do~
who to call~where to go....
But - do you?
I love you, Mom.

****************************************************
{Fear}
By Amy

Journaling:

Nobody prepared me for how fearful I'd be when I became a mom. I worry about the two of you constantly. I'll do anything to ensure that you are healthy and happy, because my biggest fear is that you won't be.

***************************************************
Biggest Fears
By Sasha

Journaling:

My biggest fear is that we experience another Black Tuesday my biggest fear is that because Osama Bin Laden is still a threat and that we, the Armed Forces have not found him, because we were sidetracked elsewhere … I fear that he will strike again. My biggest fear isthat this terrorist attack will go unpunished and I am not quite sure how to deal with that.
